We have a PC270 with a FMC150 daughter card. The 4FM GUI Control Application runs fine, the diagnostics page looks OK. I've updated the firmware from 357_pc720 to 366_pc720_fmc150.

But the 4FM FMC Analyzer and Fmc150App programs both report that the FMC150 hardware could not be detected.

Is there something we are not doing correctly? Or a hardware fault?

Dear Sir,

It sounds like this is an issue on the CPLD, can you try to compile the software and get rid of the probe_fmc function?

Best Regards,
Arnaud

Thanks for the reply.

I commented out the if statement relating to fmc150_ctrl_probefmc in the FMC150App and this allows the program to run successfully. But we can't do this for the Analyzer.

So what is the actual problem? Software, firmware or hardware?

Dear Sir,

The problem is firmware, the CPLD firmware. I think (pardon me if am wrong) the register containing the FMC present bit is not being read properly but this does not affect all the firmwares.

According to a quality procedure we cannot offer the customer to reprogram their CPLD so a RMA operation is suited here.

I will see if I can get you an analyzer version not checking for FMC150 presence, if you desire the board to be send back as RMA for reprogramming the CPLD, please let me know.

Best Regards,
Arnaud

Dear Sir,

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we prefer to re-call the board. We have found a small instability in the CPLD that is causing the FMC present signal is not propagated properly to the FPGA. This problem did not occur while qualifying your board, but since we have seen this behavior on other PC720 and we have a solution. Unfortunately your PC720 does currently not allow the CPLD to be reprogrammed.

We have issued an RMA with number 14011501. Please fill out attached form and return the form with the hardware to us. We will reprogram the CPLD and make sure in the future CPLD upgrades can be done without returning the hardware.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience,
Best Regards,
Peter

Peter

Do you want us to return the FMC, the PC720 or both?

Hello Walter,

Both are required so we can re-qualify the combination before shipping it back. We can turn this around pretty quickly, typically within 3-5 days after we received the boards.

Thanks,
Peter
