JPEG2000 Compression Daughter Card
Description
The 4DSP FP-JPEG2K is an optional device for exclusive use with 4DSP's FM Series FPGA based PMC boards. The FP-JPEG2K can be added to any of the FM Series PMC mother boards and with other input and output options as may be available to the FM Series such as with the FM489 Series. The JPEG2000 provides a wavelet-based digital imaging compression standard superseding the original discrete cosine transform-based JPEG compression method. 4DSP's JPEG2000 solution accelerates real-time image compression for digital cameras, 4G infrastructure, face-recognition and other high performance image processing.
4DSP's JPEG2000 solution is based on the Analog Devices ADV212 chipset, in combination with a Xilinx Spartan™-3AN FPGA. This combination of devices provides a compression ratio that is 25 times more efficient than the implementation of JPEG algorithms alone. The JPEG2000 daughter module can either encode the data prior or after the advanced video/imaging processing when mated to one of the 4DSP dual Virtex-4 or dual Virtex-5 FPGA-based FPGA boards and provides native support for images up to 1 Megapixel and or HD1080i and 720p. The FP-JPEG2K Daughter Card module enables any of the 4DSP, Inc. designed FPGA based PMC-XMC boards to provide real-time JPEG2000 video compression and decompression capabilities for recording and more complex image processing applications.
The onboard Xilinx Spartan™-3AN FPGA provides logic for management and control of the onboard dual JPEG2000 CODEC devices. Access to this FPGA for customer specific programming is provided exclusively through 4DSP's Engineering Services Organization, consult factory for details.
