Title: IIC Master Purpose

4DSP Support:
 
   I was looking through the vhdl for fmc30rf firmware. The mac engine seems to be connected to the IIC master star.
What purpose does this serve? What device does the MAC Engine access through the IIC master?

The device accessed is the small EEPROM on the board. This EEPROM contains data specified by the VITA standard.

On the FMC30RF daughter board? Or ML605 board? Could you briefly explain how this works. I looked at VHDL.
It's not obvious what and how this works.

Dear Ken,


We are talking about the small EEPROM on the FMC30RF. This EEPROM contains FMC product name, FMC serial number, VADJ and power requirements. It should not be altered by a customer, this would void the warranty.


It's not important to keep this module in your firmware. The FMC EEPROM content is mainly use by the FMC carriers to gather which voltage should be placed on the VADJ rail. This interface is used by 4DSP to program the EEPROM.
