I was wondering if the FMC125 on a VC707 requires an FMC700?  The FMC125 webpage does not mention needing it and the FMC700 webpage calls it a KC705 FMC adapter, but the FMC700 datasheet is titled KC705/VC707 FMC adapter.  I ask is b/c there seem to be clock region issues.

To start, it looks like FMC2 on the VC707 cannot be used for the FMC125 b/c the HB pins are routed to FPGA no connect pins.

This means the FMC125 must go on FMC1, which has all the pins.  However, the port data pins appear to be connected to the following banks and clock regions:
PortBankClock Region
A19X0Y6
B34X1Y1
C35X1Y2
D36X1Y3

Port B/C/D are located in clock regions above/below each other, but port A is not.  This means that the data for port A cannot cross into a common clock domain through the ev8aq160_phy_fifo since none of the other clock domains are adjacent to it (since multi-region clocking using a BUFMR+BUFR only clocks to the the clock region of the BUFR and the ones above and below).

Is the above correct?  If so, is there a solution to this and/or is a FMC700 required?

Dear Sir,

We are using FMC700 for our KC705 because all our boards are compatible with a VC707. We brought general FMC support at time only ML605 was existing. Then we extended the support to VC707. Later when the KC705 was released we discovered that what Xilinx claim to be a HPC connector is a LPC+ connector in fact.

On the VC707, FMC125 can be used almost fully on HPC1 but there is one exception, "SYNC_FROM_FPGGA" this one is only available if using an FMC700 but this is the only feature to gain in using FMC700 on VC707. HPC2 does not alow a full blown FMC125 to be connected. One channel would be missing typically.

Your safest path towards your results would be using FMC125 on VC707 HPC1. We do have an out of the shelve reference design for this configuration.

I hope the information to be sufficient!

Best Regards,
Arnaud
